Ausgabe zur SMM 2018
10 Ausg.Nr. 13/2018 3D printing 3D Printing Revolutionises The Maritime Sector S imilar to the automotive and aerospace industries, the maritime sector has no choice but to embrace the complex topic of additive manu- facturing. SMM is at the cutting edge: For the first time the lead- ing international trade fair of the maritime industry will host a special exhibition on 3D print- ing. From propellers and components to entire ships, there is hardly anything additive manufactur- ing will not be able to make one day. 3D printing technology is still in its infancy, but experts agree that it will forever change the global flow of products; at the same time, however, it may open up entirely new perspectives for shipping. For example, by creat- ing the ability to provide spare parts just in time at any place in the world. The 3D printing market harbours enormous potential: The American market research company International Data Cor- poration expects the 3D printing industry to grow by 15per cent an- nually over the next few years. SMM, the leading internation- al maritime trade fair, is once again a platform highlighting game- changing innovations and future-looking technologies in a hands-on format. Living up to this reputation, SMM will for the first time present a special exhibition on 3D printing this year. Its pro- ject partner is the Maritime Clus- ter Norddeutschland (MCN). Live demonstrations at the fair complex At the "Maritime 3D Printing Show Area@SMM" in Hall B6, exhibitors will showcase their ca- pabilities in additive manufactur- ing, including companies such as Rolf Lenk, Gefertec, MMG, Treo, SLM as well as the Maritime Clus- ter Norddeutschland. Visitors will be able to speak with sub- ject matter experts while watch- ing live additive manufacturing processes using a variety of ma- terials. What sets this technology apart is that “components are no longer manufactured geometri- cally through casting, drilling or milling but in an additive process layer by layer," explains Profes- sor Claus Emmelmann, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Ad- ditive Production Technologies, IAPT. Not only does this ensure a spectacular visual experience; "it also enables production of designs of any level of complex- ity, far beyond anything anyone could have imagined in the past," says Emmelmann. Weight reduc- tions of up to 80per cent are possible. Companies exposed to intense competition could save substantial manufacturing and material costs while accelerating production times dramatically. Text & Image: Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH Messeplatz 1 D-20357 Hamburg T he intention of motcom GmbH is the develop- ment and manufac- ture of safety, monitoring and measuring systems for large machinery and engines. With the experience as developer for many years of oil mist de- tectors (OMD) and systems for bearing monitoring the mot- com team has created the sys- tems SiCOMS ® / OCom (Oil mist Concentration monitoring) and BeCOMS ® / BCom (Bearing Con- dition monitoring) for support- ing the customers in all matters better and more flexible in the future. SiCOMS ® is a Single Compart- ment Oil Mist detection System, which measures the oil mist con- centration and the temperature direct in every compartment. S i C O M S ® system is de- veloped un- der IACS Unified Requirements, SOLAS Chapter II-1 and ATEX guidelines. Oil mist in engines and other ma- chinery is mostly generated by friction of metallic surface on each other with loss of lubrication. Friction in bearings can be detected in a very early state by BeCOMS ® , motcom's Bearing Condition Monitoring System. B e C O M S ® fulfils the re- quirements of Classification Soci- eties. motcom loganalyser is a PC pro- gram for extended and detailed assessment of measurement data delivered by BeCOMS ® system during its operation. The software is capable of viewing SiCOMS ® system measurement data as well. Both BeCOMS ® and SiCOMS ® systems record the engine meas- urement data in daily (or hourly) log files on a connected PC. Reviewing and assessing this data is vital for evaluating engine condition and planning mainte- nance procedures. Together with the feedback and support of our customers motcom GmbH will develop in future new products and updates for the ex- isting systems. www.motcomgmbh.com Reduce the costs by having a close look into your engine condition
